(The Hill) – Former President Trump and President Biden seemed to be sharing similar messages on Sunday.
Just minutes after Biden finished remarks on the attempt on Trump’s life the day prior, Trump posted “UNITE AMERICA!” to his Truth Social account.
A gunman fired shots into a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday evening. The former president reported that a bullet pierced his ear, and he walked away otherwise unscathed. The shooter, identified by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pa., targeted the rally from a nearby rooftop.
Biden revealed during his Sunday remarks that he has initiated an independent review of the security apparatus. He also again condemned the assassination attempt.
“It’s not who we are as a nation. It’s not America, and we cannot allow this to happen,” he said.
Three minutes after the remarks ended, at 2:11 p.m., the former president posted his message of unity on Truth Social. He made a similar statement hours earlier.
“In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win,” Trump wrote. “I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.”
Trump announced on Truth Social at 2:09 p.m. that he was departing for Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention as scheduled after considering delaying the trip. The convention is set to proceed as normal and will begin Monday.
