Emraan Hashmi, who is seen in Dharmatic Entertainment’s Showtime, recently addressed the “serial kisser” tag that has followed him throughout his career. In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra, Hashmi acknowledged the image but took responsibility for cultivating it alongside producers.
Emraan Hashmi on getting stuck to “serial kisser” label: “For 7-8 years, that was the image I and the producers were selling”
“Many artists get stuck with a certain image,” Hashmi said, referencing Bollywood veterans. He pointed to Shah Rukh Khan’s iconic arms-spread pose, Salman Khan’s shirtless scenes, and Anil Kapoor’s association with the dialogue “Jhakaas.”
Hashmi continued, “I don’t blame the audience. A large part of my career, for 7-8 years, that was the image I and the producers were selling.”
Hashmi’s breakthrough role in the 2004 erotic thriller Murder featured bold kissing scenes. He represented a new breed of character: unapologetic, rebellious, and unconventional. This resonated with audiences, establishing Hashmi as a frontrunner in a genre that pushed boundaries.
The “serial kisser” label undeniably launched Hashmi’s career. Films like Zeher, Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Gangster, and Jannat cemented his image and garnered a loyal fanbase.
