KUALA LUMPUR: MPs must undergo a mandatory health screening by Nov 11 at the latest, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul (pic).

If they fail to do so, their names will be published on the official Parliament website, he added.

“This medical screening is compulsory for all MPs and the last date is Monday, Nov 11,” he said at the start of Wednesday’s (July 17) meeting of the august House.

Johari said the necessary information on the health screening was contained in the letter issued to MPs recently.

They may also get further information from Parliament clinic head and Parliament health adviser Dr Murugesu Raju.

According to Johari, MPs will be allowed to do the health screening at the Parliament clinic or any private facility.

“It will help a lot in assessing the health status of MPs and allows immediate preventive steps to be taken.

“The Health Ministry agreed to conduct the screenings and without exception, all MPs were given the health screening letter,” he said.

Last year, Johari said he had seen at least 11 MPs collapse during his time in the House over the past 15 years.
