Part of the HVAC system at ALDI, 175 N. Winton Road, failed on Monday, and chilled and frozen items — meat, dairy, vegetables, pizza, etc. — have been pulled from coolers lining the store’s walls.
The breakdown affected the system located on the store’s roof. It happened around 1 p.m. during a rainstorm and is believed to be weather-related, a store employee said.
She said the perishable items were moved to two refrigerated trailers on-site and will be returned to shelves after a fix is made.
It isn’t clear how long that will take, but repair crews were working on it Tuesday morning.
Not all the location’s machinery was affected. Coolers that sit on the floor still are operable and stocked, and the store continues to sell unrefrigerated inventory.
The closest ALDI to the North Winton Road store is about 5 miles away at 400 Lake Ave.
A store that just opened at 1733 East Ridge Road, Irondequoit, is around 6 miles away.
