A bruising Origin decider has taken its toll on club football, with several players exiting the brutal contest injured or suspended.

Following an all-in melee during the first half, 10 players were charged by the NRL’s Match Review Committee, with two set to miss some time for their clubs.

Elsewhere, Eels halfback Mitchell Moses suffered a season-ending injury, while a Maroons forward was seen following a moon boot on the morning after the decider.

Knights team: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Krystian Mapapalangi 3. Dane Gagai 4. Bradman Best 5. Greg Marzhew 6. Will Pryce 7. Jackson Hastings 8. Daniel Saifiti 9. Phoenix Crossland 10. Leo Thompson 11. Thomas Jenkins

Players cut:

Early Mail: There’s no mail yet on whether Newcastle’s Origin trio – Kalyn Ponga, Dane Gagai and Bradman Best – will back up. Ponga played 29 minutes and is a chance to back up, while Best and Gagai exited the game without serious injury. If Adam O’Brien opts to rest them, Fletcher Sharpe, Thomas Cant and Dylan Lucas will likely jump into the starting side.

Broncos team: 1. Tristan Sailor 2. Corey Oates 3. Kotoni Staggs 4. Deine Mariner 5. Jesse Arthars 6. Ezra Mam 7. Josh Rogers 8. Corey Jensen 9. Billy Walters 10. Xavier Willison 11. Patrick Carrigan 23. Payne Haas 24. Adam Reynolds

Players cut:

Early Mail: While none of his representative stars were named to start this week, Kevin Walters has plenty of post-Origin injury problems to deal with. Pat Carrigan was seen sporting a moon boot on Thursday morning, with the lock reportedly suffering a rolled ankle during Game III. He, alongside Reece Walsh, Selwyn Cobbo and Payne Haas, have all been sent for medical tests. All are doubts to back up but there is real concern for Walsh, who was on the end of some bruising NSW hits, and at one point appeared to be suffering from a leg injury, though he bravely played on. Adam Reynolds is named on the Broncos’ extended bench but won’t return this week, with Brisbane assistant coach Matt Ballin explaining the halfback’s name was included to fill the allotted spots on the team sheet.

Melbourne Storm v Sydney Roosters, 7:35pm AEST at AAMI Park

Storm team: 1. Ryan Papenhuyzen 2. Will Warbrick 3. Jack Howarth 4. Nick Meaney 5. Grant Anderson 6. Tyran Wishart 7. Jahrome Hughes 8. Tui Kamikamica 9. Harry Grant 10. Josh King 11. Shawn Blore 12. Players cut:

Early Mail: Harry Grant carried a sternum injury into Origin Game III but appeared to get through the game unscathed. He will likely need to back up for the Storm this weekend given Bronson Garlick is out with a back injury.

Roosters team: 1. James Tedesco 2. Daniel Tupou 3. Joseph-Aukuso Sua’ali’i 4. Sitili Tupouniua 5. Dominic Young 6. Luke Keary 7. Sam Walker 8. Terrell May 9. Brandon Smith 10. Lindsay Collins 11. Angus Crichton 12. Victor Radley 13. Connor Watson 14. Sandon Smith 15. Spencer Leniu 16. Nat Butcher 17. Naufahu Whyte 18. Ethan King 19. Siua Wong 20. Blake Steep 21. Jake Elliot 22. Salesi Foketi 23. Michael Jennings

Players cut:

Early Mail: Angus Crichton left Origin III early with a HIA, though passed it and returned to the field to finish the game as one of the Blues’ best. He may be rested as a precaution this weekend, with Nat Butcher likeliest to replace him if that’s the case. Linday Collins, Spencer Leniu and Connor Watson all got through mountains of work in the decider and could too be given the weekend off by Roosters coach Trent Robinson, although the club’s current injury crisis could see Robinson’s Origin stars back up. If they are rested Naufahu Whyte, Siua Wong and Blake Steep are waiting in the wings to replace them.

Players cut:

Early Mail: Jarome Luai, Brian To’o and Liam Martin have been named among the reserves for the Panthers this weekend, but may be given the afternoon given their massive stints for the victorious Blues. Elsewhere, Nathan Cleary is making his long-awaited return from a hamstring injury this week and will likely partner Brad Schneider in the Penrith halves. Hooker Mitch Kenny admitted earlier this week that Penrith’s No.7 is “stinging to get out there” after his extensive lay-off.

After a few weeks operating through the middle for Wayne Bennett’s side, Kaufusi will return to the back row in place of the injured Euan Aitken. Should the Dolphins opt to rest Tabuai-Fidow, Trai Fuller will be promoted to start, with SeanO’Sullivan the likeliest name to join the bench.

Players cut:

Early Mail: Daly Cherry-Evans and Jake Trbojevic finished Origin III unscatched and will likely back up for the Sea Eagles this weekend. However, Blues 19th man Haumole Olakau’atu was involved in Game III’s all-in melee and has been suspended for at least two weeks for his part in the altercation. Ben Trbojevic will likely be promoted to the starting side, with Caleb Navale or Corey Waddell likely to join the bench. Taniela Paseka is a chance to return from a thumb injury and play.

Titans team: 1. Keano Kini 2. Alofiana Khan-Pereira 3. Brian Kelly 4. Phillip Sami 5. Jojo Fifita 6. Jayden Campbell 7. Kieran Foran 8. Moeaki Fotuaika 9. Sam Verrills 10. Erin Clark 11. Players cut:

Early Mail: AJ Brimson presented with soreness following last week’s win over Parramatta, and has been named in the reserves as the club look to ease him back from a significant groin injury. He remains a chance to play, though a final call is set to be made closer to kick off. Elsewhere, Mo Fotuaika was charged following Origin III but has escaped with a fine and will be free to play this weekend.

North Queensland Cowboys v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, 6:15pm at Queensland Country Bank Stadium

Cowboys team: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Jason Purdue 4. Viliami Vailea 6. Jake Clifford 7. Chad Townsend 8. Jordan McLean 9. Jake Granville 10. Jason Taumalolo 11. Heilum Luki 12. Jeremiah Nanai 23. Reece Robson 24. Reuben Cotter

Players cut:

Early Mail: Despite a bruising Origin encounter, Cowboys middle Reuben Cotter confirmed on Thursday morning that all of the Cowboys’ Origin representatives – Cotter, Valentine Holmes, Tom Dearden, Jeremiah Nanai and Reece Robson will back up against the Bulldogs. Jaxon Purdue and Jake Clifford will make way for Holmes and Dearden respectively, while Jake Granville will likely revert to the bench to make way for Robson. Cotter and Nanai may be eased back in from the bench, with Jamal Shibasaki and Thomas Mikaele the likeliest Cowboys to miss out as a result.

Bulldogs team: 1. Connor Tracey 2. Jacob Kiraz 3. Bronson Xerri 4. Stephen Crichton 5. Blake Wilson 6. Matt Burton 7. Toby Sexton 8. Josh Curran 9. Reed Mahoney 10. Samuel Hughes 11. Stephen Crichton was seen with ice on his knee post-game but will likely back up for his side this weekend. With Max King out with a fractured wrist, Josh Curran is the new man in Cameron Ciraldo’s starting forward pack, while Poasa Faamausili joins the bench.
