Jackson County authorities closed all eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 Wednesday afternoon after an apparent road rage incident, South Mississippi authorities said.
Jackson County Sheriff John Ledbetter said one person is in custody.
The incident occurred on I-10 between Exit 50 and 57, Ledbetter said.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco said shots were fired during the apparent road rage. The incident involved two cars, he said. It is unclear if anyone was injured.
The Mississippi Department of Transportation said a crash just after 4 p.m. on I-10 at Exit 57 had blocked all eastbound lanes. The agency’s traffic map showed backups at 5 p.m. Wednesday in eastbound and westbound lanes near Gulf Hills.
The agency asked drivers to use an alternate route.
Orozco said the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will investigate the incident. Ledbetter and Orozco said no further information was immediately available.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
