Six months of steady growth at the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport has been punctuated with the addition of five new flights.

The flights — mostly from budget airline Allegiant Air — will offer nonstop service to midsize and major cities across the country. Three of the routes have already taken off, with two more headed for departure in November.

NEW SRQ FLIGHT: New nonstop flight headed for Sarasota Bradenton International Airport in November

What new flights are coming to the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport?

SRQ has announced new flights to New York City; Austin, Texas; Des Moines, Iowa; Plattsburgh, New York and Portsmouth, New Hampshire so far this year. Allegiant will fly the Austin, Des Moines, Plattsburgh and Portsmouth flights, while the New York City route comes from American Airlines.

Flights to Austin, Des Moines and Plattsburgh are available to book, while the New York City and Portsmouth flights will launch Nov. 5 and Nov. 23, respectively.

The new service at SRQ accompanies announcements of additional routes at airports across the state. Allegiant will also launch routes to the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport from the Punta Gorda Airport, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and the St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport in November. St. Pete-Clearwater also added service to the Evansville Regional Airport in Evansville, Indiana and the McAllen International Airport in McAllen, Texas last month.

What is Allegiant Air?

Allegiant Air is a budget airline specializing in nonstop flights to midsize cities. It flies to 28 destinations from SRQ, including Indianapolis, Nashville and Washington D.C.

Allegiant flights start as low as $39 for select flights, but typically fare runs at $69. Flights can be booked at allegientair.com.

Is the Sarasota Bradenton International Airport growing?

SRQ has skyrocketed post-pandemic, with steady growth in 2021, 2022 and 2023. The airport capped off a five-year passenger increase of 21.5% in 2023, boasting a total of more than 4 million passengers on the year.

The airport’s monthly passengers compared to last year have increased every month except April, which was attributed to a March Easter date that caused less April travel than usual. The 12-month activity through this June is up 7.7% compared to last June, per an SRQ press release.

When will Sarasota Bradenton Airport’s new terminal and parking be open?

The airport is expanding with the uptick in traffic. A new ground transportation center with a covered passenger area is scheduled to open later this year, as is a new parking expansion for the public.

A new five-gate terminal is set to open in 2025 and a new concession program will feature local restaurants and coffee shops.
