ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) — A teenager from Cedar Springs who left her home at the end of May has been found safe in Rockford, deputies said.
Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, 17-year-old Penelope “Penny” Wise was found safe. The Kent County Sheriff’s Office said she had been living with an older man in a home in Rockford. She had left the house on a bicycle and was seen by someone in the community who contacted the police.
‘Hope is waning’ six weeks after Cedar Springs teen vanished
Penelope walked away from her family home, located near Morley Park in Cedar Springs, on the evening of May 31, according to the sheriff’s office. Around 6 p.m. that day, she was spotted on surveillance video on Rockford Park Drive near Northland Drive.
On June 1, she was captured on camera walking alone by the Corner Bar in Rockford, deputies said.
Deputies continue to trace teen girl missing since May
Lt. Eric Brunner with the sheriff’s office previously told Target 8 that there’s been no sign of Penelope since, and that’s why the sheriff’s department had stepped up efforts to find her, including going door-to-door in downtown Rockford.
Deputies considered Penelope a runaway, and Silent Observer had offered up to $1,000 for information that helped to find her.
The case remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office said more information will be released on Monday.
