A woman is in “critical condition” after being stabbed several times Saturday evening at Miami International Airport, according to Miami-Dade Police.
The incident occurred just after 11:30 p.m. on the fourth floor of MIA’s Concourse J in the pre-security area. The woman was attacked “without provocation,” police said, and was nearly thrown over the railing. She was able to escape to the third floor where officers discovered her and took the suspect into custody.
In the initial chaos of the stabbing, police were called to the scene for an alleged active shooter, but that turned out to be false.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center where she remains in critical condition, police say.
Names for the victim and the suspect have yet to be released, though the alleged attacker was identified as a man.
All passengers in concourses H and J were evacuated and subsequently re-screened, according to a MIA spokesperson. Operations returned to normal around 1:30 a.m.
