Google to launch Pixel 9 on August 13: Gemini, foldables, Pixel watch 3 and more to come – MASHAHER

Google has announced its upcoming hardware event, scheduled for August 13, where the company will unveil new devices and technologies. Last week, the tech giant announced that the event will unveil the upcoming flagships, Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, during the event. This is not it. The post on X (formerly Twitter), also revealed that the upcoming devices will be heavily integrated with Gemini AI. After the post, it is clear that the company will shed more light on the AI features powered by Gemini on these smartphones. But there is more, Google will also unveil the launch of Google Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. It is noteworthy that Google is releasing it new range of products before the Apple iPhone 16 series. This gives more room to stay ahead of Apple. The event is set to commemorate at 10AM PT, which means 10.30PM in India.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold: First foldable in India

As said before, last week, Google took to X, teasing about its two most premium upcoming devices — Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Barring the upper half of the rear panel, camera island and Gemini, the 20-second videos gave out no details. Where Google Pixel 9 Pro resembles its predecessor, Pixel 8 pro, Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold steals the limelight. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the second foldable of the company. Google’s first foldable, Pixel Fold was launched but not in India. But not this time. Google has confirmed that this smartphone will also be launched in India.

The official teaser shows Pixel 9 Pro Fold with a stunning design with dual-pill-shaped camera cutouts. The cameras are housed on a rectangular island in the top-left corner of the rear panel. Although the teaser doesn’t reveal the camera on the inner screen, rumours indicate that the phone will feature a punch-hole camera on the left side of the screen, a design upgrade from the first fold’s bezel-mounted camera, made possible by the reduced bezel size.

The Gemini Era

In the same teaser, posted last week, it is noteworthy that more than the hardware, it emphasised Gemini AI integrated into the devices. Both carry the tagline “A (foldable) phone built for the Gemini era,” setting the stage for the latest in a long line of AI-themed tech events.

In May, Gemini was also in the limelight during the Google I/O event. In fact, it seems like Google deliberately separated its consumer hardware announcements from its developer conference, revealing the affordable Pixel 8a device prior to the event, distinguishing it from the developer-focused proceedings. Notably, the most intriguing consumer-facing Android AI feature this year didn’t debut on a Pixel device at all, so far.

Google Pixel Watch 3

While there is nothing official about the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 3, the online rumours have a lot to say. As per latest reports, the Pixel Watch 3 could come with a bigger screen and slimmer bezels when compared to the earlier Pixel watches.

The rumour has it that the Pixel Watch 3 is set to impress with a brighter 2,000-nit display and slimmer bezels compared to its predecessors. These enhancements are not just cosmetic; they signify Google’s commitment to improving both form and function.

The inclusion of an ultra-wideband (UWB) chip, confirmed via recent FCC filings, suggests advanced location tracking capabilities that align with Google’s enhanced Find My Device network. Moreover, the Pixel Watch 3 will reportedly come in two sizes, 41mm and 45mm, accommodating different preferences and wrist sizes. Further, the watches are expected to be powered by Qualcomm’s W5 chipset and feature a robust battery life, with the larger model boasting a substantial 420mAh battery.

Google Pixel Buds Pro 2

The August 13 launch will also unveil a new TWS, Pixel Buds Pro 2. Similar to Pixel Watch 3, there is nothing out officially, but rumours and leaks indicate that the new Pixel Buds Pro 2 case might have a 650mAh battery capacity. The earbuds are said to have a battery life up to 31 hours without noise cancellation. The charging case is speculated to support both wired and wireless charging support.
