UPDATE (3:07 p.m.): News 5 has confirmed that the crash on Dauphin Island Bridge left two people dead. Several others are injured.
Drivers should plan detours now because the bridge will be shut down for at least four hours, we have learned.

DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (WKRG) — The Dauphin Island Bridge is currently closed after a head-on collision, according to Dauphin Island Mayor Jeff Collier.

Collier said the crash involving two vehicles occurred about halfway across the bridge between the high rise and the island around 1:45 p.m. Monday.
LOCATION:
Both lanes are closed on the bridge and likely will be for some time, according to Collier.

“DI Bridge currently closed due to major accident and will likely be closed for some time,” a Facebook post from Collier said. “Avoid travel in this area.”
