Sajid Khan, last seen in ‘Bigg Boss’, gave a rare interview to a YouTube channel ‘Timeout With Ankit’, in May 2024. The comedian-filmmaker spoke about various aspects of his life and one such topic he touched upon was his stint on ‘Bigg Boss 16’. He made it categorically clear that the show isn’t scripted, as believed.
Is Bigg Boss scripted? Sajid Khan BREAKS silence: “Duniya ka sabse shaant aadmi wahan jaa ke hyper ho jaayega. There’s no sunlight. You don’t know if it’s day or night. You have no clue what is happening in the world”
Sajid Khan began by saying, “If I would have charged 10 paisa every time I was asked this question, I would have today had at least Rs. 200-300 in my pocket! Nahin yaar, scripted nahin hai! This is how human relationships are.”
He explained his point with an example, “You and I are praising each other. Now imagine, if we are locked in this room for 10 days and the cameras are fitted. Tu aur main jaani dushman ban jaayenge. Then we’ll cry, hug each other, dance and narrate sad stories from our lives. We’ll fight again and once again, we’ll patch up. Some days, we’ll repeat our fight. Yeh badi natural baat hai. It’s a superb concept.”
He continued, “To all those people who feel that Bigg Boss is scripted – I was there for 107 days. Scripted nahin hai. The tasks they give you are such that automatically, aap apne mind mein script banana shuru kar dete ho. For me, it was just about being there. The season also worked well because, for the first time, there was a participant in Bigg Boss jo jhagde rukwa raha tha (laughs)!”
Sajid Khan further explained that the nature of the show was such that “Duniya ka sabse shaant aadmi wahan jaa ke hyper ho jaayega. But it doesn’t help. When two people get angry, they look at each other, say ‘Fod daalunga’, they fight for a bit and then they walk off. But in ‘Bigg Boss’ house, you can’t walk off (laughs). Raat ko baith ke saath mein khaana khaana hai. And then Bigg Boss would ask you to share the room. We’ll also be told to be together in the task! That’s the nature of the game and it’s brilliant.”
Sajid also said what his closed ones told him before he entered the ‘Bigg Boss’ house, “Farah Khan, Sajid Nadiadwala, Avinash Gowariker and my other friend Harpreet told me that ‘Don’t you think its high time that the rest of the country also know you as a person that we know you and why we love you so much? Just be yourself’. And that’s who I was (in the house). You can put on an act for 10 days, 15 days or a maximum of 30 days. But you can’t do it everyday. Aapki sachaai kahin na kahin saamne aa jaati hai. If you manage to stick around for 3 weeks, the public understands the real you.”
He then joked in his style, “I lost 7 kilos. Bigg Boss mein paise milte hai lekin khana nahin milta hai (laughs)! Aur kalesh bhi hote hai.”
Explaining the challenges, Sajid Khan revealed, “There’s no sunlight. It’s a set covered by a roof. Even the garden is air-conditioned. You fail to know when it’s day and when it’s night. Initially, you’re like ‘Cameras are on. Be Nice’. 10 days later, you (don’t care about the cameras).”
He further stated, “You don’t even have mobile phones. You have no clue what is happening in the world. Whenever a new entrant would arrive, I’d mentally calculate that ‘I am here for 3-4 weeks’. I’ll ask that new entrant, ‘Woh waali film release hui kya? How did it do?’! However, they were not allowed to tell us what was happening outside. I used to plead and ask about the box-office status of the films!”
He ended by saying, “I have gone through phases of poverty. Even in my lowest times, I at least had access to movies. Bina picture dekhe main jee nahin sakta. But here, I didn’t get to see a film. My hands started shaking on the first day itself. Salman bhai asked me about it. I said, ‘I am OD-ing’!”
At present, the third season of ‘Bigg Boss OTT’ is going on and it is hosted by Anil Kapoor for the first time.
