The Dees, Bombers and Giants are all in line to receive major boosts as they look to keep their finals aspirations alive in 2024.
Meanwhile, the cavalry is finally set to arrive for an injury-depleted Richmond outfit, but Michael Voss has some concerns at the Blues.

ROUND 20 TEAM TIPS AND FIXTURE (all times AEST)
CARLTON v PORT ADELAIDE
Friday July 26, 7:40pm at Marvel Stadium
Carlton’s Round 19 team
B: L.Cowan, J.Weitering, A.Cincotta
HB: N.Newman, S. Durdin, A.Saad
C: O.Hollands, P.Cripps – C, B.Acres
HF: E.Hollands, C.Curnow, M.Kennedy
F: L.Fogarty, H.McKay, J.Motlop
FOLL: T.De Koning, S.Walsh, A.Cerra
I/C: G. Hewett, M. Cottrell, M. Owies, S. Durdin, D. Cuningham
EMG: M. Pittonet, J. Martin, B. Kemp
Team Tips: The Blues will be without star ruck Tom De Koning for the rest of the home and away season after suffering a foot fracture (he’s also got a punctured lung), while Blake Acres, Sam Walsh and Sam Durdin will all be assessed during the week as they deal with their own niggles. Key forward Harry McKay is set to play having been completed cleared of concussion and the Blues could regain Mitch McGovern, Caleb Marchbank, Orazio Fantasia and Corey Durdin this weekend. Young gun Jaxon Binns stuffed the stat sheet in the VFL, amassing 47 disposals, 13 marks and three goals, while Jack Martin continued his return from injury with 17 touches. Marc Pittonet is a straight swap for De Koning in the ruck, while defender Brodie Kemp responded to his axing with 19 disposals and 12 marks in the VFL. If there’s more injury news out of Ikon Park this week, defender Jordan Boyd could be in line for an immediate recall too.
Port Adelaide’s Round 19 team
B: E.Ratugolea, B.Zerk-Thatcher, M.Bergman
HB: L.Evans, A.Aliir, D.Houston
C: T.Boak, O.Wines, W.Drew
HF: D.Byrne-Jones, M.Georgiades, W.Rioli
F: C.Dixon, O.Lord, C.Rozee – C
FOLL: J.Sweet, J.Horne-Francis, Z.Butters
I/C: J.Mead, J.Burgoyne, Q.Narkle, F.Evans, D.Williams
EMG: J.Sinn, J.McEntee, D.Visentini
Team Tips: The Power could regain a trio of stars in Todd Marshall, Kane Farrell and Lachie Jones this weekend as Ken Hinkley’s side looks to stay in touch with the top eight race. Ryan Burton (21 disposals), Josh Sinn (17) and Trent McKenzie (15) all played SANFL on the weekend and might be considered for senior opportunities should Hinkley decide to make some changes at selection, while Will Lorenz and carryover emergency Jed McEntee are also names in the mix. Ollie Lord, Quinton Narkle and Dylan Williams might be amongst the unlucky names to miss out.

NORTH MELBOURNE v GEELONG
Saturday July 27, 1:45pm at Blundstone Arena
North Melbourne’s Round 19 team
B: A.Corr, C.Comben, L.McDonald
HB: J.Archer, H.Sheezel, Z.Fisher
C: B.Scott, L.Davies-Uniacke, C.McKercher
HF: D.Tucker, B.Teakle, E.Ford
F: P.Curtis, N.Larkey, C.Zurhaar
FOLL: T.Xerri, G.Wardlaw, J.Simpkin – C
I/C: G. Logue, T. Powell, R. Hansen Jr, L. Shiels, D. Stephens
EMG: T. Pink, J. Stephenson, W. Phillips
Team Tips: Maligned forward Jaidyn Stephenson did his chances of a senior recall no harm, amassing 29 disposals and eleven marks in the VFL, while tagger Will Phillips had 20 touches himself. Robert Hansen Jnr had just five touches and a goal in the loss to Carlton and could come under selection scrutiny, while Liam Shiels was the sub. Tom Powell and Zac Fisher were also quiet, but given the Roos were competitive against the Blues, expect Alistair Clarkson to roll with a similar line-up against Geelong in Hobart.
Geelong’s Round 19 team
B: J.Henry, S.De Koning, J.Kolodjashnij
HB: M.Duncan, T.Stewart, Z.Guthrie
C: J.Bowes, M.Holmes, O.Dempsey
HF: T.Stengle, B.Close, G.Miers
F: S.Mannagh, B. Parfitt, J.Cameron
FOLL: M.Blicavs, P.Dangerfield – C, M. Knevitt
I/C: Z.Tuohy, G.Rohan, L.Humphries, T. Clohesy, O.Henry
EMG: R.Stanley
Team Tips: Expect Tanner Bruhn to be brought back into the senior side this week after a brilliant 35-disposal outing in the VFL on return from a wrist injury. Tom Atkins and Shannon Neale were late outs against the Bulldogs and will push to return, putting pressure on their replacements in Ted Clohesy and Brandan Parfitt. Mitch Knevitt was also quiet in wet conditions. Jhye Clark, Oisin Mullin and Mark O’Connor are other names who could be called on after the disappointing defeat to the Dogs.

GOLD COAST SUNS v BRISBANE LIONS
Saturday July 27, 4:35pm at People First Stadium
Gold Coast’s Round 19 team
B: S.Collins, W.Powell, M.Andrew
HB: L.Weller, B.Uwland, J.Jeffrey
C: N.Holman, N.Anderson – C, S.Clohesy
HF: B.Humphrey, J.Walter, M.Rowell
F: B.Long, B.King, J.Lukosius
FOLL: N.Moyle, S.Flanders, D.Swallow
I/C: A.Sexton, C.Ballard, W.Graham, C.Budarick, L.Johnston
EMG: R.Atkins, B.Fiorini, T.Berry
Team Tips: The Suns will be hoping co-captain Jarrod Witts is available after dealing with a back injury, although young Ned Moyle has been admirable in filling the void. Damien Hardwick’s side cannot buy a win on the road this year, is it time he makes a statement at selection? Veteran Rory Atkins (38 disposals) continues to put up huge numbers in the VFL, as does Brayden Fiorini (31), while Thomas Berry (23) has also been busy. There are quite a few names at the Suns who might be feeling nervous if Dimma decides to swing the axe.
Brisbane’s Round 19 team
B: D.Zorko, D.Joyce, R.Lester
HB: D.Wilmot, H.Andrews, B.Starcevich
C: Z.Bailey, C.Rayner, W.Ashcroft
HF: C.Cameron, E.Hipwood, H.McCluggage
F: K.Lohmann, J.Daniher, L.Morris
FOLL: O.McInerney, J.Dunkley, L.Neale – C
I/C: C. Ah Chee, J. Berry, H. Smith, S. Brain, B. Reville
EMG: D. Robertson, C. McKenna, L. Morris
Team Tips: The Lions are absolutely humming in the past couple of months having won seven in a row, so it’s unlikely that coach Chris Fagan tinkers with a winning formula too much. They will be without co-captain Harris Andrews though, who has been ruled out of the QClash due to concussion. Logan Morris was outstanding in the VFL with four goals, 22 disposals and nine marks after being dropped last week, while Jaxon Prior found plenty of the footy with 32 disposals. Connor McKenna was managed last week and could come straight back in as well and Noah Answerth is another defensive option. With Jack Payne still on the sidelines for a month due to a foot injury, Fagan may need to be creative with an injury-depleted key defensive set-up. Could Eric Hipwood swing back into defence with Morris as his cover?
Dayne Zorko: Mic’d up | 02:12
ST KILDA v ESSENDON
Saturday July 27, 4:35pm at Marvel Stadium
St Kilda’s Round 19 team
B: J.Battle, D.Howard, C.Wilkie
HB: L.Stocker, N.Wanganeen-Milera, J.Webster
C: B.Hill, J.Sinclair, M.Wood
HF: R.Byrnes, L.Henry, M.Owens
F: J.Higgins, T.Membrey, C.Sharman
FOLL: R.Marshall, J.Steele – C, Z.Jones
I/C: H.Clark, D.Butler, D.Wilson, H.Garcia, R.Bonner
EMG: A.Schoenmaker, A.McLennan, M.Heath
Team Tips: It’s season over for exciting Saint Liam Henry who suffered a knee injury against the Eagles. What coach Ross Lyon does at selection in the remaining five weeks remains a point of intrigue. Does he turn to new recruit Paddy Dow who had 32 disposals and eleven clearances in the VFL or give more opportunities to youngsters such as Arie Schoenmaker, Angus Hastie or untried mid-forward Olli Hotton? After winning two of their last three, you’d expect him not to tinker too much.
Essendon’s Round 19 team
B: J.Ridley, B.McKay, J.Laverde
HB: N.Martin, M.Redman, A.McGrath
C: X.Duursma, D.Shiel, M.Guelfi
HF: H.Jones, N.Caddy, S.Durham
F: J.Stringer, K.Langford, T.Goldstein
FOLL: S.Draper, J.Caldwell, Z.Merrett – C
I/C: J.Gresham, N.Cox, A.Perkins, J.Kelly, J.Menzie
EMG: B.Hobbs, P.Wright, D.Heppell
Team Tips: The Bombers could regain star midfielder Darcy Parish this week for a game they simply have to win to keep ahead of the pack in the race for the top eight. The VFL side had a bye on the weekend which means there’s no exposed form for Brad Scott to take into selection this week. Do they persist with the two-ruck set-up, or can they entrust Sam Draper with solo ruck duties? Peter Wright has been down on form, but they missed him against the Crows, while veteran Dyson Heppell might be called upon due to his experience. Jye Menzie and Jake Kelly didn’t have a lot of impact on Friday night.
Collingwood become the hunted | 11:26
MELBOURNE v GWS GIANTS
Saturday July 27, 7:30pm at the MCG
Melbourne’s Round 19 team
B: T.McDonald, S.May, J.McVee
HB: C.Salem, J.Lever, A.Moniz-Wakefield
C: E.Langdon, C.Oliver, T.Sparrow
HF: K.Pickett, J.van Rooyen, K.Chandler
F: A.Neal-Bullen, B.Fritsch, J.Melksham
FOLL: H.Petty, J.Viney – C, T.Rivers
I/C: C. Windsor, J. Billings, J. Bowey, K. Tholstrup, D. Turner
EMG: A. Tomlinson, B. Laurie, T. Fullarton
Team Tips: The Dees will be hoping desperately that captain Max Gawn is fit to face the Giants after they were belted around the ball by the Dockers last week. Rookie Kynan Brown put up video game numbers in the VFL, amassing 27 disposals, 24 tackles, eleven clearances and a goal. Half-backs Blake Howes and Marty Hore had 21 disposals apiece as they look for AFL recalls too. Young guns Koltyn Tholstrup and Andy Moniz-Wakefield were quiet, while Daniel Turner would be a straight swap should Gawn be available. Taj Woewodin (managed), Adam Tomlinson and Bailey Laurie are other options for Simon Goodwin.
Giants’ Round 19 team
B: C.Idun, J.Buckley, H.Perryman
HB: L.Whitfield, H.Himmelberg, L.Ash
C: C.Ward, T.Green, I.Cumming
HF: B.Daniels, J.Riccardi, T.McMullin
F: T.Greene – C, J.Hogan, D.Jones
FOLL: K.Briggs, F.Callaghan, J.Peatling
I/C: T.Bedford, A.Cadman, H.Thomas, X.O’Halloran, J.Fonti
EMG: C.Stone, L.Keeffe, R.Angwin
Team Tips: The Giants are starting to hit some form at the right time of the season and competition for places is really healthy right now. Star defender Sam Taylor could return after a nasty testicle injury, while Stephen Coniglio remains a week-by-week proposition as he deals with a troublesome shoulder concern. Isaac Cumming was subbed out of the clash against the Gold Coast with hamstring soreness and will be a test for this week. In the VFL, veteran Nick Haynes (37 disposals, 13 marks) was prolific, as were Connor Stone (33 and 15) and Jacob Wehr (29). Untried youngsters James Leake (25 and 10) and Phoenix Gothard (four goals) were also sensational, giving coach Adam Kingsley a bit to think about at selection.
Dylan Buckley cops BRUTAL conditions | 01:07
FREMANTLE v WEST COAST EAGLES
Saturday July 27, 8:10pm at Optus Stadium
Fremantle’s Round 19 team
B: H.Chapman, A.Pearce – C, B.Cox
HB: C.Wagner, L.Ryan, J.Clark
C: J.Sharp, N.Fyfe, H.Young
HF: B.Banfield, S.Switkowski, M.Frederick
F: J.Treacy, J.Amiss, L.Jackson
FOLL: S.Darcy, C.Serong, A.Brayshaw
I/C: S. Sturt, J. O’Meara, M. Walters, J. Aish, B. Walker
EMG: W. Brodie, P. Voss, K. Worner
Team Tips: Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir said Alex Pearce was “sore” after being subbed out of the clash against Melbourne with an arm issue last week and he looks set to spend some time on the sidelines. Thankfully, Josh Draper is a like-for-like replacement and has had some good exposure at the top level already this season. Their WAFL side had a bye on the weekend, so it was hard for the likes of Matthew Johnson, Will Brodie, Patrick Voss or Karl Worner to press their cases for senior recalls. Despite finishing the game on the bench, Luke Jackson should be fine to feature in the Western Derby.
West Coast’s Round 19 team
B: B.Hough, T.Barrass, A.Witherden
HB: T.Cole, H.Edwards, J.Hunt
C: R.Ginbey, H.Reid, J.Cripps
HF: L.Edwards, J.Williams, L.Ryan
F: J.Hutchinson, O.Allen – C, R.Maric
FOLL: B.Williams, Z.Trew, T.Kelly
I/C: C.Chesser, J.Petruccelle, J.Jones, J.Rotham, J.Culley
EMG: D.Sheed, A.Reid, J.Darling
Team Tips: For the sake of Eagles fans, let’s hope the cavalry will arrive this week. Star defender Jeremy McGovern, gun forward Jake Waterman, midfield beast Elliot Yeo and ruck Matthew Flynn could all feasibly make returns this week ahead of a huge Western Derby. Co-captain Liam Duggan will miss at least another week though as he recovers from concussion. Veterans Dom Sheed and Jack Darling would also be hoping they could get a look in under interim coach Jarrod Schofield. Expect some mass changes for the Eagles after a poor loss to the Saints in round 19.
‘Is age starting to catch up with them?’ | 02:49
COLLINGWOOD v RICHMOND
Sunday July 28, 1:10pm at the MCG
Collingwood’s Round 19 team
B: B.Maynard, D.Moore – C, I.Quaynor
HB: J.Noble, O.Markov, N.Daicos
C: S.Sidebottom, S.Pendlebury, J.Daicos
HF: B.Hill, D.McStay, J.Howe
F: J.Richards, P.Lipinski, J.Elliott
FOLL: D.Cameron, J.De Goey, J.Crisp
I/C: N.Kreuger, R.McInnes, W.Hoskin-Elliott, L.Sullivan, N.Long
EMG: B.Frampton, F.Macrae, J.Bytel
Team Tips: Collingwood’s season hangs by a thread, and they simply must take care of business against the lowly-ranked Richmond if they are to remain in the finals hunt. Craig McRae’s side is likely to be boosted by the returns of Lachie Schultz and Beau McCreery, while it looks as though Mason Cox will come back into the AFL side for Nathan Kreuger (concussion). Former Saint Jack Bytel (31 disposals and nine clearances) and midfielder Finlay Macrae (21 disposals, one goal) could also come into McRae’s calculations after solid VFL outings, as will Harvey Harrison who was managed against the Hawks. The Pies were absolutely belted by Hawthorn in round 19 and given they’ve lost four on the trot, don’t be surprised if McRae makes a selection statement or two.
Richmond’s Round 19 team
B: B.Miller, N.Broad, N.Balta
HB: J.Short, J.Trezise, D.Rioli
C: H.Ralphsmith, D.Prestia, K.McIntosh
HF: R.Mansell, S.Campbell, S.Green
F: S.Ryan, S.Bolton, J.Koschitzke
FOLL: T.Nankervis – C, L.Baker, J.Hopper
I/C: T.Dow, T.Brown, T.Sonsie, S.Banks, K.Smith
EMG: N.Cumberland, M.Coulthard, J.Blight
Team Tips: The Tigers will be without captain Toby Nankervis (concussion) this week but will be hoping three-time Norm Smith Medallist Dustin Martin (back) and star midfielder Tim Taranto (concussion) are back for the Pies clash. Richmond have had a horror run with injury this season, but Nick Vlastuin, Jack Graham, Marlion Pickett and Maurice Rioli Jnr areother names who will test this week also. Samson Ryan was quiet against Port Adelaide but likely gets a reprieve given Nankervis will miss. It’ll all depend on the fitness of the above half a dozen players, but if most are available, it might mean the likes of Tyler Sonsie, Kaleb Smith and Thomson Dow head back to the VFL.
Little question marks emerge with Swans? | 03:27
SYDNEY SWANS v WESTERN BULLDOGS
Sunday July 28, 3:20pm at the SCG
Sydney’s Round 19 team
B: D.Rampe – C, T.McCartin, H.Cunningham
HB: O.Florent, N.Blakey, M.Roberts
C: J.Lloyd, Ch.Warner, E.Gulden
HF: J.Jordon, L.McDonald, R.Fox
F: T.Papley, J.Amartey, W.Hayward
FOLL: B.Grundy, T.Adams, I.Heeney
I/C: L. Melican, L. Parker, B. Campbell, H. McLean, Co. Warner
EMG: C. Mitchell, A. Francis, S. Reid
Team Tips: The Swans will be forced into at least one change this week, with Tom Papley ruled out for four to six weeks with an ankle injury. Dane Rampe (calf) and Will Hayward (ankle) are also tests for the clash against the Western Bulldogs. James Rowbottom (jaw) is also likely to miss a couple of games with a facial fracture, according to Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary. Ex-Bomber Aaron Francis could come in for Rampe, while Sam Wicks is arguably the front-runner to replace Papley. Angus Sheldrick (26), Caleb Mitchell (18) and Caiden Cleary (21) are other names who could come into the mix for John Longmire after solid VFL performances. The Swans remain two games and percentage clear on top of the ladder, despite having now lost three of their past four matches.
Western Bulldogs’ Round 19 team
B: T.Duryea, B.Khamis, N.Coffield
HB: L.Bramble, R.Lobb, B.Dale
C: L.Vandermeer, E.Richards, B.Williams
HF: A.Treloar, A.Naughton, J.Ugle-Hagan
F: C.Weightman, S.Darcy, R.West
FOLL: T.English, M.Bontempelli – C, T.Liberatore
I/C: J.Freijah, J.Macrae, L.McNeil, C.Poulter, R.Sanders
EMG: R.Garcia, A.Jones, A.Keath
Team Tips: The Bulldogs are another side starting to gain some momentum at the right time of the season and such is their form, Luke Beveridge is set to have some selection headaches this week. Caleb Daniel had 31 disposals, eight tackles and eight clearances in the VFL, while Riley Garcia responded to his omission with 21 touches, eleven tackles and a goal. Elsewhere, Harvey Gallagher (17 disposals, one goal) and Oskar Baker (18 disposals, three goals) also ensured that they stay at the forefront of the selection committee’s minds. Despite the vast contributions by the above in the VFL, you’d imagine Bevo continues to back the majority of troops who have won four out of their last five matches at AFL level. Can the Bulldogs stand up against the out-of-sorts Swans at the SCG to continue their finals push?

ADELAIDE CROWS v HAWTHORN
Sunday July 28, 4:10pm at Adelaide Oval
Adelaide’s Round 19 team
B: M.Keane, N.Murray, J.Butts
HB: M.Michalanney, L.Nankervis, B.Smith
C: L.Sholl, S.Berry, B.Dowling
HF: B.Keays, L.Murphy, J.Soligo
F: E.Himmelberg, R.Thilthorpe, D.Fogarty
FOLL: R.O’Brien, R.Laird, J.Dawson – C
I/C: B.Cook, Z.Taylor, H.Bond, M.Hinge, J.Rachele
EMG: J.Borlase, D.Curtin, L.Gollant
Team Tips: The Crows will be without captain Jordan Dawson (concussion) and defender Jordon Butts (foot) when they host an in-form Hawthorn on Sunday evening. However, defender Nick Murray has avoided an ACL injury and remains a chance of suiting up in that fixture. Veteran Taylor Walker should return after being managed, as will defenders Josh Worrell (arm) and Will Hamill (finger). Prized draftee Daniel Curtin continues to bang down the door with 20 disposals, five clearances and two goals in the SANFL, while Ned McHenry was also busy with 22 touches.
Hawthorn’s Round 19 team
B: J.Impey, S.Frost, K.Amon
HB: W.Day, J.Scrimshaw, J.Sicily – C
C: F.Maginness, D.Moore, C.Macdonald
HF: J.Worpel, B.Hardwick, M.Chol
F: J.Ginnivan, C.Dear, J.Ward
FOLL: L.Meek, C.Nash, J.Newcombe
I/C: L.Breust, C.Jiath, J.Weddle, N.Watson, M.D’Ambrosio
EMG: J.Gunston, H.Morrison, C.Mackenzie
Team Tips: Sam Mitchell is facing some healthy selection dilemmas this week after one of the club’s best wins in recent memory, downing Collingwood by 66 points. Young gun Cam Mackenzie and veteran Jack Gunston have both been managed in recent weeks and will press their cases for recalls, while defenders Seamus Mitchell (34 disposals, ten marks, five tackles) and Harry Morrison (25 disposals, ten marks) were busy in the VFL victory over North Melbourne. Finn Maginness was the substitute so had limited opportunities to contribute, while young gun Calsher Dear was down on his usual output but can be forgiven given the tough conditions for talls. The Hawks must keep their momentum up and bank a win on the road against an in-form Adelaide if they are to keep their finals flame flickering in 2024.
