Key forward Harry McKay is set to play having been completed cleared of concussion and the Blues could regain Mitch McGovern, Caleb Marchbank, Orazio Fantasia and Corey Durdin this weekend. Tom Atkins and Shannon Neale were late outs against the Bulldogs and will push to return, putting pressure on their replacements in Ted Clohesy and Brandan Parfitt. Mitch Knevitt was also quiet in wet conditions. Jhye Clark, Oisin Mullin and Mark O’Connor are other names who could be called on after the disappointing defeat to the Dogs.

Team Tips: The Lions are absolutely humming in the past couple of months having won seven in a row, so it’s unlikely that coach Chris Fagan tinkers with a winning formula too much. They will be without co-captain Harris Andrews though, who has been ruled out of the QClash due to concussion. Logan Morris was outstanding in the VFL with four goals, 22 disposals and nine marks after being dropped last week, while Jaxon Prior found plenty of the footy with 32 disposals. Connor McKenna was managed last week and could come straight back in as well and Noah Answerth is another defensive option. With Jack Payne still on the sidelines for a month due to a foot injury, Fagan may need to be creative with an injury-depleted key defensive set-up. Could Eric Hipwood swing back into defence with Morris as his cover?

Do they persist with the two-ruck set-up, or can they entrust Sam Draper with solo ruck duties? Peter Wright has been down on form, but they missed him against the Crows, while veteran Dyson Heppell might be called upon due to his experience. Star defender Sam Taylor could return after a nasty testicle injury, while Stephen Coniglio remains a week-by-week proposition as he deals with a troublesome shoulder concern. Isaac Cumming was subbed out of the clash against the Gold Coast with hamstring soreness and will be a test for this week. In the VFL, veteran Nick Haynes (37 disposals, 13 marks) was prolific, as were Connor Stone (33 and 15) and Jacob Wehr (29). Untried youngsters James Leake (25 and 10) and Phoenix Gothard (four goals) were also sensational, giving coach Adam Kingsley a bit to think about at selection.

Craig McRae’s side is likely to be boosted by the returns of Lachie Schultz and Beau McCreery, while it looks as though Mason Cox will come back into the AFL side for Nathan Kreuger (concussion). Former Saint Jack Bytel (31 disposals and nine clearances) and midfielder Finlay Macrae (21 disposals, one goal) could also come into McRae’s calculations after solid VFL outings, as will Harvey Harrison who was managed against the Hawks. The Pies were absolutely belted by Hawthorn in round 19 and given they’ve lost four on the trot, don’t be surprised if McRae makes a selection statement or two.

James Rowbottom (jaw) is also likely to miss a couple of games with a facial fracture, according to Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary. Ex-Bomber Aaron Francis could come in for Rampe, while Sam Wicks is arguably the front-runner to replace Papley. Angus Sheldrick (26), Caleb Mitchell (18) and Caiden Cleary (21) are other names who could come into the mix for John Longmire after solid VFL performances. Elsewhere, Harvey Gallagher (17 disposals, one goal) and Oskar Baker (18 disposals, three goals) also ensured that they stay at the forefront of the selection committee’s minds. Despite the vast contributions by the above in the VFL, you’d imagine Bevo continues to back the majority of troops who have won four out of their last five matches at AFL level. Team Tips: Sam Mitchell is facing some healthy selection dilemmas this week after one of the club’s best wins in recent memory, downing Collingwood by 66 points. Young gun Cam Mackenzie and veteran Jack Gunston have both been managed in recent weeks and will press their cases for recalls, while defenders Seamus Mitchell (34 disposals, ten marks, five tackles) and Harry Morrison (25 disposals, ten marks) were busy in the VFL victory over North Melbourne. Finn Maginness was the substitute so had limited opportunities to contribute, while young gun Calsher Dear was down on his usual output but can be forgiven given the tough conditions for talls. The Hawks must keep their momentum up and bank a win on the road against an in-form Adelaide if they are to keep their finals flame flickering in 2024.
