MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The parking lot of Main Event was packed with officers who were investigating the fatal shooting of a security guard Monday night.
Memphis Police said they believe they know who was responsible for pulling the trigger.

But the big question now is why?
“We do believe that this incident stems from a verbal altercation between two individuals who were acquainted with each other,” MPD Major Christopher Parker said.
“We were just coming here for a drink,” patron Alexis Partee said. “We come every other weekend to get a drink, and I just was told there was shooting here.”
Regulars at Main Event were stunned after learning a man was shot at the popular family fun spot.
“I’m used to getting checked at the door, they make you spin around. They wand you down and check your purses and your bags,” Partee said. “So I can’t believe someone was able to get in here with a firearm.”

Memphis Police say they responded to a shooting call here on Appling Farms Parkway at 7:15 p.m. and found a man dead from a gunshot wound.
Another man was detained at the scene.
Police say they aren’t sure what exactly led to the argument or whether it happened inside the Main Event or in the parking lot.
What they do know is it was between two men who are typically hired to keep people safe.
“Preliminary information does indicate that the individuals involved were security guards,” Parker said.
As police continue to investigate the incident, patrons say they might rethink where they go for a fun night moving forward.

“It’s very concerning, especially when you’re just out trying to have fun,” Partee said. “And you can’t even do that now.”
At this point, no charges have been filed.
