Considering that the 2020 film Soorarai Pottru had garnered a National Award for Suriya for his performance, Sarfira starring Akshay Kumar had a lot of expectations riding high on it. However, the film, which released earlier this month, has been struggling to maintain its stand in the box office. Despite the emotional performance and a lot of appreciation coming his way, Akshay recently opened up about the status of his recent release and how it is extremely ‘hurtful’ for any actor to see any of his films fail.
Akshay Kumar opens up about the low response for Sarfira; says, “It is heart-breaking to see any film fail”
In an interview with Forbes India, Akshay Kumar said, “Behind every film there is a lot of blood, sweat, and passion that goes in. It is heart-breaking to see any film fail. But you have to learn to see the silver lining. Every failure teaches you the value of success and increases the hunger for it even further. Luckily, I learnt to deal with it earlier on in my career. Of course, it hurts and impacts you, but that won’t change the fate of the film. It’s not something which is in your control… what is in your control is to work harder, make amends, and give it your all to your next film. That’s how I channel my energy and try to move on to the next, focusing my energy where it matters the most.”
Meanwhile, the actor also addressed the immense changes the film industry has experienced post the pandemic. “The pandemic has undoubtedly changed the dynamics of the film industry. With audiences being more selective about their cinema outings, it has become crucial to choose projects that offer something completely entertaining and unique. I’ve become more mindful of the content, ensuring that it resonates with the current times and provides an experience that justifies a trip to the theatre. It’s about finding stories that not only entertain but also connect deeply with the audience,” he shared.
Speaking about Sarfira, inspired by the life story of G.R. Gopinath, the founder behind India’s first low-cost airlines Simplifly Deccan, the film is an official remake of Soorarai Pottru starring Suriya in the lead. The Hindi version also featured Radhika Madan and Paresh Rawal in lead roles and it released in theatres on July 12.
