Ex-Navy SEAL and US Congressman Eli Crane was among those visiting the scene of the failed assassination of former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 22, where he said “questions still remain” about security that was in place.
In a rooftop video, Crane cast a critical eye on the security situation that allowed the 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, to get in position and open fire.
“It’s not that steep at all, we’ve just had a 70-year-old man here climb up on the roof easily,” Crane says in his selfie video.
In the footage, Crane points to a water tower, saying that if the Secret Service had had someone positioned there, they would have immediately been able to spot Crooks.
“A lot of questions here in Butler, but we look forward to doing an oversight and getting to the bottom of it making sure it never happens again,” he says.
Crane also posted footage from what he said was “one of the windows the Secret Service had access to, overlooking the entire roof.”
“Makes you wonder how on earth they allowed the shooter to access the roof, let alone crawl up it & fire several shots,” he wrote on X. Credit: Rep Eli Crane via Storyful
