Tessa Thompson to Star in Netflix Limited Series ‘His & Hers’ – MASHAHER

Netflix has ordered the psychological thriller limited series “His & Hers” with Tessa Thompson set for the lead role, Variety has learned.

The streamer has given the series a six-episode order. It is based on the Alice Feeney novel of the same name. William Oldroyd and “Ozark” co-creator Bill Dubuque serve as writers and executive producers on the series, with Oldroyd also set to direct the first episode.

The official description of the series states, “Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna (Thompson) lives in haunting reclusivity, fading away from her friends and career as a journalist. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega – the sleepy town where she grew up – Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Detective Jack Harper is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. There are two sides to every story: his and hers, which means someone is always lying.”

Alongside Oldroyd and Dubuque, Thompson will also be an executive producer on “His & Hers” under her Viva Maude banner. Dee Johnson will be the showrunner and executive producer in addition to writing. Kristen Campo of Campout Productions also executive produces along with Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael of Freckle Films and Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude. Fifth Season, where Dubuque is under an overall deal, is the studio.

Thompson’s past TV roles include “Westworld,” “Veronica Mars,” and “Copper.” She has also starred in two major film franchises in recent years — the three “Creed” films opposite Michael B. Jordan and the “Thor” films beginning with “Thor: Ragnarok,” in which she played Valkyrie. She reprised the role of Valkyrie in the sequel “Thor: Love and Thunder” and in the MCU film “The Marvels.” She has also starred in films like “Annihilation,” “Dear White People,” “Mississippi Damned,” “For Colored Girls,” “Selma,” and “Sorry to Bother You.”

She is repped by WME, Mosaic, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Oldroyd has previously directed the feature films “Lady MacBeth” and “Eileen.” “His & Hers” will mark his television writing and directing debut. Dubuque is best known for co-creating “Ozark,” which ran for four seasons at Netflix. The show received 45 Emmy nominations during its run with four wins, three of those going to Julia Garner for best supporting actress. Dubuque also wrote the screenplays for the films “The Accountant,” “A Family Man,” and “The Judge.” Johnson has worked on shows like “ER,” “Fellow Travelers,” “Nashville,” and “The Good Wife.”

Oldroyd is repped by WME, United Agents, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole LLP. Dubuque is repped by CAA and Zero Gravity Management. Johnson is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
