One of the most loved films of Salman Khan, Kick, was released 10 years ago, on July 25. The film is memorable not just for its massy and adrenaline-driven scenes, performances, songs etc. but also because it marked the directorial debut of Sajid Nadiadwala. Also, it was the first time that bestseller author Chetan Bhagat wrote for a film which was not based on his novel. A few months after its release, the makers of the film released a special coffee table book ‘Kick: A Karizmatic Journey’. It consists of not just rare BTS images but also some fascinating trivia and cast and crew members talking about their experiences.

Chetan Bhagat wrote a full-page experience on how he came on board. He said that on a Sunday afternoon, Sajid Nadiadwala called him to his office and offered him to write the script of Kick. Chetan was a bit hesitant at first but then came on board.
Chetan Bhagat said, “I remember endless meetings in the specially assigned Kick war room. We expanded the team of writers and we had Sajid, myself, Rajat Aroraa and Keith Gomes, who joined the team, along with Jaideep Sen. We had made one wall full of whiteboards and we worked like mad scientists trying to get the complicated double-flashback structure of the film right. When making a Salman movie, one not only has to tell the story but also make Salman fans happy – by making the hero look good and entertaining in almost every scene.”
Chetan also revealed that he saw the film several times in cinemas after its release and asked people for feedback. He humbly admitted that while most of the reactions were positive, there were a few aspects that a section of the audience didn’t like.
He stated, “For me, besides the hit to my resume, Kick gave me a chance to learn about the Indian audience. Some of the scenes I wrote worked, some did not. Some of Sajid’s suggestions didn’t seem right to me at the writing stage, but they worked really well in the film. I will become a better screenplay writer and feel more connected to the mass audience. This was an important goal for me.”
