Bloomington man charged with murder of man found dead on rural Owen County road – MASHAHER

A Bloomington man was booked into the Owen County jail early Thursday, charged with killing Malik Sims, whose body was found along a rural Owen County road 10 days ago.

Sims, who was 23, died from a gunshot wound to the head. A passerby reported seeing his body in the grass along Stephenson Road, near the Owen-Monroe county line, the afternoon of July 15.

Quentin Porter Jr., 25, who has a Bloomington address, is charged with murder and auto theft, according to jail records. He was taken to the jail at 2 a.m. Thursday and is being held without bond.

Police have not said what they believe led to the shooting.

Owen County Sheriff Ryan White didn’t release any information about the case as the investigation went on, citing the importance of keeping what detectives knew “close to the vest” in order to not hinder the attempt to identify and locate the suspected killer.

He said the Bloomington Police Department and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department assisted in the investigation.
