El Paso newscaster Fidel Moreno-Meza leaving CBS4, KFOX14 in August – MASHAHER

A newscaster announced their departure amid reported production changes happening Aug. 5 at channels CBS4 and KFOX14.

Fidel Moreno-Meza, morning anchor for CBS4 Mornings and CBS4 at Noon, is taking on a new role in Las Vegas. His last day on air for El Paso will be Friday, Aug. 2, he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday, July 24.

“I’ve got some bittersweet news for you. After nearly three years here in the Sun City, the sun is setting on my time here. Friday, August 2nd, will be my last day on air with the wonderful team at CBS4 and KFOX14,” the post said.

Moreno-Meza was hired as a multimedia journalist in 2021 and previously worked in Kansas City, Missouri, according to his bio on the station’s website.

In an email to the El Paso Times, Sinclair Broadcast Group, the company that owns the two stations, said it would be making changes and refocusing resources in the market.

The company declined to answer if the move would result in layoffs.

In his Facebook post, Moreno-Meza said his choice was a personal one.

“This is a completely personal choice, and I did have the option of staying here in El Paso, but it is time to be closer to family and loved ones. It’s an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” the post said.

The headquarters of the Sinclair Broadcast Group is shown April 3, 2018 in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The company, the largest owner of local television stations in the United States, has drawn attention recently for repeating claims by U.S President Donald Trump that traditional television and print publications offer "fake" or biased news.
