A train more than a mile long blocked several Gulfport crossings Thursday morning after it collided with an 18-wheeler, police said.
Officers are at the accident scene near 33rd Avenue and West Railroad Street, police said.
The 18-wheeler got stuck on the tracks after its driver tried to cross despite a sign that warned of low ground clearance, Gulfport Police Sgt. Jason Ducre said. The accident occurred about 7:20 a.m.
The driver left the truck before the collision and was not injured, Ducre said. No other injuries were reported.
The train is blocking southbound traffic for a mile-and-a-half west of 30th Avenue, Ducre said. Police warned drivers to expect delays.
The train is a mile-and-a-half long.
The 18-wheeler will remain stalled on the tracks until CSX Transportation can investigate the crash, Ducre said.
