Utah State Senator celebrates Pioneer Day in the most Utah way possible – MASHAHER

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — There is a good chance no one celebrated the great State of Utah quite like State Sen. Daniel McCay.

To celebrate Pioneer Day — a state holiday commemorating when Brigham Young and Utah pioneers arrived in the Great Salt Lake Valley — McCay channeled his inner Mark Zuckerberg with a video posted to social media.

In the video, which can be seen in the video player above, McCay surfs the water of Warm Creek Bay. In one hand, McCay proudly holds up the new Utah State Flag, which he helped create as the bill’s chief sponsor. In the other, he carries a 44 oz. fountain soda from Maverik, which he nonchalantly takes sips from.

The whole video is set to Utah’s state song, “Utah, This is the Place.”

The video mirrors the same stunt Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg posted on Independence Day earlier this year. Zuckerberg surfs the waters in a tuxedo with the American Flag and a beer in hand to the tune of “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen.

In a reply to one constituent, McCay said he was “just having fun.”

As for the change from beer to a Maverik soda, McCay said, “We all know that the 44 oz. from Maverik is Utah’s beer.” His tux? McCay said he had forgotten it at home.
