Australia has taken an early lead on the 2024 Paris Olympics medal tally with success in the pool on night one.
China had taken the initial lead after early gold medals in the diving and shooting before Australia hit the board with Grace Brown dominating the women’s road time trial and Ariarne Titmus’ win in the 400m freestyle.
Australia then added a third gold medal on the opening day with a win in the women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay.
With three gold medals it is Australia’s best opening day at an Olympic Games.
Earlier, there was a narrow – and heartbreaking – medal miss for Australia on Day 1 in the women’s synchronised 3m springboard diving.
