Two people were arrested on Saturday after an image showing a man rolling ganja inside a crowded metro train in Chennai went viral on social media.
AIADMK leader and former Minister D Jayakumar took to X, urging action against the man who was seen in the viral image. The Chennai Police traced the man and identified him as Bhuvanesh, a food delivery executive.
A preliminary investigation revealed that one Narendiran had supplied marijuana to the delivery executive. The Chennai Police then arrested Narendiran and seized 1.5 kg of marijuana from him.
In his X post, Jayakumar slammed the ruling DMK government, and questioned, “If Chief Minister MK Stalin would focus on the deteriorating law and order in the state?”
He also said, “Trafficking of prohibited drugs in Tamil Nadu is increasing, and drug addicts are challenging the law and order.”
Meanwhile, in an awareness message, the Greater Chennai Police took to X and said, “Say no to drug abuse”. Sharing the viral image of a man rolling ganja while commuting on the Chennai Metro, police tweeted, “Greater Chennai Police is taking strict action against drug-related offences.”
Highlighting the citizens’ role, the police urged people to promote a drug-free environment in Chennai. They also appealed to people to report any suspicious activity.
