The Congress said on Sunday that the people of Manipur are asking questions about whether Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who attended two meetings led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, also met him and discussed the prevalent situation in the violence-hit state and invited him to come and address people in the state.
The Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, stated that Chief Minister Singh attended the NITI Aayog meeting in Delhi a day before, which was chaired by “the self-anointed non-biological PM.”.
Taking to X, Jairam Ramesh said, “Then the Manipur CM attends a meeting of BJP CMs and Deputy CMs presided over by the same deity.”
He added: “The simple question that the people of Manipur are asking is this: Did Shri N. Biren Singh meet with Shri Narendra Modi separately one-on-one and discuss the situation in Manipur, which started burning on the night of May 3rd, 2023? Did Shri Biren Singh invite Shri Narendra Modi to visit Manipur, either before or after his trip to Ukraine?”
Manipur steeped itself in violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities in May last year. Since then, around 200 people have been killed and thousands uprooted.
