Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has opened up about the transformative experience of fatherhood, revealing how his daughter, Raha, has completely redefined his life. In a candid conversation with entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, the actor expressed how the arrival of his little one has brought about a profound shift in his perspective, values, and priorities.
Ranbir Kapoor says he didn’t fear death before Raha was born; quit smoking a year ago: “When I became a father, I started feeling very unhealthy”
Describing the moment he first held Raha in his arms as the most precious of his life, Kapoor admitted to being overwhelmed by an indescribable love. “It’s like somebody has taken my heart and put it in my hands,” he shared. The experience, he said, has challenged his previous notions of life and death, making him cherish every moment.
A significant change that fatherhood has brought about is Kapoor’s decision to quit smoking. Driven by the desire to be a healthy role model for his daughter, he successfully overcame a long-standing habit. He said, “Now that I am a father and have a daughter, that’s a game-changer. That is making me question detachment and indifference because I feel like I was just born. I was reborn. I feel the 40 years of my life that I have lived was another life. I am feeling new emotions, new thoughts… I never feared death. I always thought that I would die at the age of 71 because I had this obsession with the number 8. I don’t know why I said that. But now I am like that’s too soon. That’s another 30 years. So, all that has changed because of Raha.”
He added, “I started smoking cigarettes which became a very nasty habit from the age of 17 till last year when I finally quit. When I became a father, I started feeling very unhealthy.”
The actor also spoke about his unique bond with Raha, describing her as a bundle of joy and laughter. While Alia Bhatt, Raha’s mother, is seen as an extension of herself by the little one, Kapoor enjoys a playful and flirtatious dynamic with his daughter. He said, “I think Raha considers Alia as a part of her. She doesn’t see Alia as another human. They both are one. With me, she looks for the masti and fun and the laughter and flirting. We are flirting all the time.”
The couple, who tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in April 2022, welcomed Raha into their lives in November of the same year.
On the work front, Ranbir Kapoor will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War and Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana.
