Not only are the Broncos’ finals hopes hanging by a thread after Saturday’s loss to the Bulldogs, but they may be without young gun Deine Mariner for some time.
The 21-year-old was assisted from the field in the 73rd minute with a reported kneecap injury.
However coach Kevin Walters gave a promising update post-game, saying: “It’s a knock on the knee… but not anything serious that will keep him out long-term.”

Meanwhile, Manly enforcer Josh Aloiai succumbed to a knee injury in his side’s clash with the Roosters. Aloiai looked a little worse for wear after taking the first hit-up of the game and after trying to play through he left the field in the 17th minute.
Remarkably though, the 28-year-old returned to game in the 68th minute after his side was decimated by HIAs.
The Sea Eagles lost outside backs Reuben Garrick and Jason Saab in the back end of the first half to head knocks, forcing them to activate their 18th man.
Elsewhere, the Cowboys were dealt a double blow in the first half of their clash with the Sharks.
Jason Taumalolo left the field in the 10th minute and didn’t return after suffering a suspected fractured cheekbone, while Cotter was ruled out due to a category one HIA following a collision with Jesse Ramien.
“I’ve spoken to Reubs and he’s got a bump on his jaw but is as good as can be. He won’t be playing next week with the five-day turnaround,” coach Todd Payten said.
“Jason’s in hospital getting his face or cheekbone checked so we will have to wait and see there.”
Warriors workhorse Jackson Ford went off in the second half against the Wests Tigers on Friday night with a suspected knee injury.
Ford put his hand up to stop play in the 67th minute but then got to his feet before leaving the field.
It came just Tigers young gun Luke Laulilii and Warriors hooker Wayde Egan had a nasty head clash.
Laulilii failed his HIA and it was ruled a category one, but remarkably Egan stayed on the field.
Luckless Tigers centre Starford To’a as well as five-eighth Lachlan Galvin failed to finish the game. Coach Benji Marshall revealed post-game that To’a will be “out for a while” with a fresh hamstring injury, but he wasn’t able to confirm what happened to Galvin.
