British PM Keir Starmer on Saturday made headlines after he was photographed at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony not wearing a protective plastic and getting drenched in rain. The viral picture showed Starmer as the only one not wearing any raincoat.
Calling it a “British” phenomenon, Starmer, when asked about the picture, told French channel LCI, “It’s British! We are used to the rain.”
“But the rain didn’t dampen the spirits,” he added. He went on to describe the ceremony as a “spectacular” and “fantastic” event and said that it made “the whole use of the river (and) of Paris.”
With the picture going viral on social media platforms, several users reacted to it with one saying, “Nothing more British than absolutely refusing to wear one of those plastic poncho things.”
“Everyone knows British prime ministers are immune to rain….,” said another, posting the picture of former UK PM Rishi Sunak getting wet in rain while giving a speech.
