The Olympics are rolling along after Friday’s spectacle of an Opening Ceremony and the first weekend of competition. Team USA got off to a relatively slow start on Day 1 but nabbed its first individual gold medal of the games in the pool on Sunday as Torri Huske outstretched fellow American Gretchen Walsh in the women’s 100-meter butterfly.
Americans would finish 1-2 in the women’s individual foil as well, with Lee Kiefer defeating Lauren Scruggs 15-6 to defend her 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medal. She’s the first American woman and the third woman in history to win two gold medals in fencing.
Haley Batten also made history in cross-country mountain biking, becoming the first American woman to win Olympic silver in the sport.
Here’s where the medal count stands going into competition on Monday, July 29.
