‘Only vegetarian and satvik food’: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma orders to end VIP culture | India News – MASHAHER

NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that his government will only serve vegetarian and satvik food at official meetings. The decision was made as part of the government’s efforts to end VIP culture and reduce the number of vehicles and barricades related to the chief minister’s security.
“Our government will end VIP culture. We are cutting down on vehicles and barricades related to the chief minister’s security. From now on, only vegetarian and satvik food will be served in every government programme,” said the Assam CM.
Sarma further said that the directive will not apply to state guests. He also urged the district commissioners to ensure that there are no ‘unnecessary’ splurges for government events.
The chief minister also discussed plans to ensure that the number of panchayats does not decrease during the delimitation process, which will require necessary legislative amendments. He stressed on the importance of completing Panchayat elections by December 31 and having new office bearers take their oaths by then.

To promote economic growth, create jobs, and increase productivity, Himanta proposed determining each district’s contribution to Assam’s GDP, allowing them to serve as centers of Growth. Starting next year, the Assam government will publish a district GDP report alongside the state GDP report, Himanta said.
The announcements were made by the Assam CM during his speech at the DCC conference.
