Sergio Pérez will remain a Red Bull driver after the Formula One summer break despite poor results, a team spokesman confirmed to dpa on Tuesday.
The spokesman confirmed a report from Dutch paper De Telegraaf team principal Christian Horner had made the announcement to team staff at their factory in Milton Keynes.
“Checo remains a Red Bull driver despite the latest speculation,” Horner was quoted as saying. “We are looking forward to seeing him perform on the courses where he has done well before.”
F1 resumes on August 25 with the Dutch Grand Prix, the home race of triple world champion Max Verstappen who drives the other Red Bull.
Verstappen tops the 2024 list despite four races without victory, and is 146 points ahead of Perez who ranks seventh.
Pérez’s low tally could make it difficult for Red Bull to retain the constructors’ world title, with McLaren just 42 points behind and Ferrari 53.
The BBC, meanwhile, said Red Bull’s sister team Visa RB will also continue with their drivers Australian Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda of Japan.
