Amazon Prime Video‘s “Young Sherlock” series has added Dónal Finn to its cast, Variety has learned exclusively.
Inspired by Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels, Finn has been cast in the role of James Moriarty, the notorious archnemesis of Sherlock Holmes. As previously announced, Holmes will be played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin.
The official description for “Young Sherlock” states, “At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.”
The cast of the series also includes Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Colin Firth, and Zine Tseng
This will mark Finn’s second Amazon series. He also appears in the high fantasy series “The Wheel of Time” in the role of Mat Cauthon, having joined the show in its second season. His other screen credits include “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” “The Witcher,” and “How to Build a Girl.” He currently stars in the West End production of “Hadestown,” with his final performance set for Aug. 25.
