A 14-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after a daylight machete attack in Springvale, the second such assault on the suburb’s main road within days.
Victoria Police confirmed they were called to a Springvale Road supermarket about 4.50pm after reports a male had been stabbed.
In a statement, police said that when they arrived they found a 14-year-old boy with “lacerations to his shoulders”. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Police have been told a group approached the [boy] and then assaulted him before running away,” the statement said.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. A source, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, said the group that attacked the boy were wearing balaclavas.
The attack comes after a teen was stabbed outside a Melbourne library on Sunday.
The 15-year-old boy was stabbed by a group of youths who filmed the attack, which Nine News reported showed the group threatening the victim with a machete.
Nine News reported it then showed them chasing, kicking and punching the victim before stabbing him on the ground.
