The anticipation surrounding Freedom at Midnight is palpable, especially with the release of its first-look teaser. Jubilee actor Sidhant Gupta takes on the role of Jawaharlal Nehru, joined by Chirag Vohra as Mahatma Gandhi and Rajendra Chawla as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The teaser captures a crucial moment in Indian history: the election of independent India’s first prime minister. Initially, the Indian National Congress leaders elected Vallabhbhai Patel, but Gandhi’s timely intervention shifts the nomination to Nehru, illustrating the political complexities and personal dynamics of the time.

The series boasts a stellar ensemble cast, featuring Arif Zakaria as Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Ira Dubey as Fatima Jinnah, Malishka Mendonsa as Sarojini Naidu, Rajesh Kumar as Liaquat Ali Khan, KC Shankar as V.P. Menon, Luke McGibney as Lord Louis Mountbatten, Cordelia Bugeja as Lady Edwina Mountbatten, Alistair Finlay as Archibald Wavell, Andrew Cullum as Clement Attlee, and Richard Teverson as Cyril Radcliffe. Each actor brings to life the pivotal figures who played essential roles during India’s transition to independence.

Freedom at Midnight is an emotional tale chronicling the political events that shaped a nation. Beginning with the appointment of British India’s last viceroy, Lord Mountbatten, and concluding with Gandhi’s assassination and funeral, the series promises to cover the breadth and depth of this tumultuous period.

“The year 1947 has been etched in India’s history as the year that shaped its fate. A riveting, emotional tale of an incident that altered the course of the nation, Freedom at Midnight is an attempt to bring to Indians the whole truth about the events that led us to our freedom—the courage, and the hope instilled in people by the personages who gave us the new India. This is a story every Indian should know, and I feel honoured to be able to tell it along with my partners, Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani, and the team of writers, along with StudioNEXT,” Nikkhil Advani earlier said.

The writing team, consisting of Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai, and Ethan Taylor, has meticulously crafted a script that aims to capture the essence of this historical saga.
