The Matildas need at least a draw against football giants Team USA on Thursday morning AEST to automatically qualify for the Olympic quarterfinals in Paris.
After last week’s 3-0 loss to Germany and Monday’s thrilling 6-5 victory over Zambia, the Australians are third on the Group B standings with three points.
However, the Matildas would be at risk of missing the knockouts if they suffer another defeat against America, who won gold in 1996, 2004, 2008 and 2012.
“They’re obviously one of the teams that are in the best form in the world right now, and not just in this tournament but the games leading into as well,” Matildas coach Tony Gustavsson said.
Kick-off at Marseille Stadium is scheduled for 3am AEST.
