Dollar General on Binghamton’s West Side has been closed by the City of Binghamton Code Enforcement Office.
The 68 Main St. building previously housed a CVS Pharmacy, which closed in January 2019. After remaining empty for over five years, Dollar General opened there in April.
According to notices posted on the doors of the store, a hearing regarding the property took place on July 22, and the property was condemned on July 25.
Assistant Supervisor of Building Construction & Code Enforcement Dave Watson first visited the location with Assistant Fire Marshall Captain Arthur Griswold on July 5, 2023, according to the notice, following complaints of leaks entering through the roof.
A Notice of Violation was issued, outlining seven violations which include water leaking from the roof onto open electrical junction boxes, an inactive electrical panel, water pouring through a rear entrance, faulty hardware and a hole in a basement fire exit. The issues had not been corrected by the time of a second inspection on July 11.
