Crews respond to fire at Slidell restaurant - MASHAHER

SLIDELL, La. (WGNO) — A fire at a Slidell restaurant has been extinguished, according to information from St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1.

The fire reportedly occurred inside of Las Morritas Taqueria & Bar at 1791 W. Gause Blvd. around 4:05 p.m. Firefighters arrived at the scene just over three minutes later to find flames and smoke visible from the roof. They were able to get the blaze under control in 26 minutes.

Workers said they discovered the fire and called 911 after hearing a popping sound followed by lights in the building going out.

There were also workers on the roof of the restaurant at the time, though they were able to evacuate from the roof as the restaurant was evacuating its occupants below.

The restaurant reportedly sustained significant damage, although damage to the rest of the strip mall was mitigated due to the efforts of the firefighters.

No injuries were reported from the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
