GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — The Grand Junction Police Department is starting its volunteer academy in September and is looking for fresh volunteers.

They are seeking to hire five volunteers for their victim advocate services. Volunteers will assist with supporting the community in crashes, natural disasters and unwitnessed deaths. The department is looking for community members who are interested in getting more involved and have a passion for helping their community, even on their worst days.

To qualify as a volunteer, you must be at least 21 years old, undergo a background check, pass a CVSA screening and complete the 35-hour Victim Advocate Training Academy. Volunteers will be asked to commit to four 12-hour on-call shifts a month.
