Collingwood star Jordan De Goey has been ruled out for the remainder of 2024 due to a tendon-related hamstring injury.
De Goey was subbed out of the Magpies’ thrilling three-point win over Carlton on Saturday night in the third quarter, with scans confirming a high-grade hamstring strain with tendon damage.
The club confirmed De Goey was expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks, sidelining the 28-year old for the remainder of this season.

And so the premiership-winning midfielder, who starred in last year’s finals series, won’t be available to help the rest of the 11th-placed club’s unlikely push for back-to-back flags ahead of clashes with Sydney (SCG), Brisbane (MCG) and Melbourne (MCG) to come.
It comes in a season De Goey was already heavily limited by an ongoing groin issue.
He played 13 out of a possible 20 games including missing Rounds 11 to 15, spending more time forward upon returning to the side.
“I’ve just been told it’s high-grade. Obviously, it’s not great for him,” Collingwood coach Craig McRae said on Saturday night.
“I would have thought it is difficult for him to play in the short to medium term.”
Collingwood is set to provide a more in depth injury report on Monday, though De Goey was the only casualty from the scintillating win over Carlton in Scott Pendlebury’s 400th game.
The Blues have their own injury concerns including Adam Cerra facing another stint on the sidelines due to his own hamstring injury that caused the midfielder to get subbed out of Saturday night’s game.
At risk of missing the rest of the home and away season as the club awaits scan results, it marks Cerra’s fifth hamstring injury over the past 12 months to continue a grim run of soft tissue injuries.
Cerra has already missed eight games this year due to ongoing hamstring setbacks in a tough season for the 24-year old.
Elsewhere at Ikon Park, Matt Cotrell suffered a shoulder injury and Charlie Curnow sprained his ankle.

“Cerra’s (injured his) hamstring, so we will get scanned,” Blues coach Michael Voss said.
“Obviously he has had one before, so we will see where that one is comparatively to the others.
“Cottrell had the shoulder. We were down to three on the bench, then had Charlie coming off late. We will see how that pulls up.”
Melbourne is meanwhile breathing a sigh of relief, with star defender Steven May cleared of serious internal damage after being taken to hospital for precautionary scans during Friday night’s defeat to the Western Bulldogs.
The Demons confirmed May had sustained rib fractures following a collision with Laitham Vandermeer in the second term that caused the 32-yer old to be subbed out of the match.

The two-time All-Australian backman missed one game earlier this season after fracturing his ribs in the club’s Round 2 win over Hawthorn.
Melbourne said May was recovering at home and that a time frame on his return would be determined this week.
“Pleasingly, there are no internal or underlying issues related to the injury. Steven has since been discharged from the hospital and is recovering at home,” Melbourne football boss Alan Richardson said in a statement.
“The injury he sustained is to the same ribs he injured earlier in the year. The club’s medical team will continue to monitor Steven closely, with a return-to-play timeline to be determined in the coming days.
“Steven’s wellbeing is our main priority, and we will support him through his recovery.”
