ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A wrong-way crash on Interstate 20 claimed the lives of two people early Sunday morning.
According to Tye Police, at 2:46 a.m., officers were conducting a traffic stop at the eastbound 278-mile marker on I-20 when they observed a compact silver Toyota sedan entering the 278 off-ramp and heading westbound in the eastbound lanes.
Tye Police reported that they attempted to alert the driver, but the driver continued in the wrong lane, leading to a head-on collision with a Dodge Ram pickup. Both drivers were killed in the crash.

Life-saving measures were attempted on the driver of the Dodge Ram but were unsuccessful. The collision involved four vehicles, including an 18-wheeler that collided with the disabled Dodge Ram and caused debris to damage another vehicle.
According to Tye PD, the investigation of the crash is ongoing. Preliminary assessments suggest that alcohol may have been a contributing factor, and blood tests are pending.
