Bollywood’s reigning queen, Alia Bhatt, has come a long way since her debut in Karan Johar’s ‘Student of the Year’. While the actress has garnered immense praise and a massive fan following, her father and renowned filmmaker, Mahesh Bhatt, has a candid take on her journey.

In a recent interview with India Today, Mahesh Bhatt opened up about Alia’s evolution as an actor, highlighting her exceptional performances in films like Udta Punjab and Highway. He admitted to being deeply moved by her portrayal of complex characters in these films, contrasting them starkly with her debut role.

“I must say that I was devastated by Udta Punjab. I didn’t understand when did this girl, this Juhu girl exposed to our home, where we live like a normal family… How did this Juhu girl get the accent right of an Adivasi from Chhattisgarh. It was amazing. I was astounded by that,” Mahesh Bhatt shared. He further added, “Her raw power, and her ability to get into such a vulnerable space, and bare her heart. Highway and Udta Punjab… It was a departure from that girl who was just a mannequin in Student of the Year. You see the evolution in your child also.”
Mahesh Bhatt’s admiration for his daughter grew even deeper when she embraced motherhood in 2022. Although they shared the screen in the film Sadak 2, the movie didn’t meet expectations. Mahesh Bhatt has since announced his retirement from directing, citing his feeling of being outdated.
Speaking of the professional front, Mahesh is currently promoting his brother and director Vikram Bhatt’s Bloody Ishq, starring Avika Gor and Vardhaan Puri. Meanwhile, Alia’s last big screen release was Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which recently turned one.
