The parents of a child who was pronounced dead at Saint Anthony’s Midwest Hospital Friday were arrested on murder complaints after an investigation by Midwest City police.
The father, 37, and the mother, 30, had not been formally charged by Saturday afternoon. The Oklahoman is withholding their names until they have been charged. They were living at Vista Green Apartments, 7016 E Reno Ave. in Midwest City.
Officer Jeff McNeil said in arrest affidavits that the parents took the female child, age 7, to the hospital just before noon Friday with signs of rigor mortis, internal and external injuries, severe malnourishment, and weighing about 25 pounds. The child was pronounced dead at 12:19 p.m. and the hospital notified a medical examiner, who notified police.
McNeil reported the father gave conflicting accounts of the child’s health, care, and well-being. Both parents said the girl had the flu. The parents were in custody Saturday waiting arraignment, which probably won’t be before Monday, according to a supervising officer on duty Saturday.
