Reigning men’s 200-metre champion Andre De Grasse of Markham, Ont., advanced to the event’s semifinal on Monday with the 14th best-time overall and the second best in his heat, only behind men’s 100m Olympic champion Noah Lyles.

Brendon Rodney of Etobicoke, Ont., a two-time Olympic medallist in the 4x100m relay, moved on with the 12th-best time.

Fellow Canadian Aaron Brown missed the cut, placing 18th overall, but will have another chance in the repechage round. The semifinal rounds are set for Wednesday.

Audrey Leduc of Gatineau, Que., will attempt to qualify in the women’s 200m semifinals at Stade de France in Saint-Denis, north of Paris, at 2:54 p.m. ET.

Fellow Canadian Jacqueline Madogo will attempt to do the same at 2:54 p.m. ET.
