Twenty-eight suspects will appear in court on Tuesday following disorder in Middlesbrough on Sunday – as forces in other parts of the country arrested people in relation to alleged offences committed online during the UK riots.
Those set to appear at Teesside Magistrates’ Court have been charged with violent disorder and other offences. The court has set aside a remand court to deal with those appearing today, police said.
It comes as six people are due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court following rioting outside a hotel which housed migrants in Rotherham on Sunday.
Lee Crisp, 42, Christopher Rodgers, 38, and Liam Grey, 20, have been charged with violent disorder alongside two teenagers who cannot be named for legal reasons.
Joshua Simpson, 26, has been charged with violent disorder and assault of an emergency worker, South Yorkshire Police added.

Meanwhile, Nottinghamshire Police has charged eight people in connection with disorder that broke out in Nottingham city centre at the weekend.
The seven men and one woman are aged between 18 and 46 and are accused of a variety of crimes, including public order, weapon offences and assaulting an emergency worker.
Earlier today, West Yorkshire Police said it charged a 28-year-old man with using “threatening words or behaviour intending to stir up racial hatred”.
The Crown Prosecution Service said the charge related to alleged Facebook posts made between 1 and 5 August.
Parlour will appear at Leeds Magistrates’ Court this morning.
It comes as officers from Cheshire Police have arrested a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman on suspicion of racially aggravated harassment with intent to cause fear and violence.
On Sunday 4 August, officers had received several reports from concerned members of the public in relation to a Snapchat post encouraging members of the public to attend a protest at a hotel in Cheshire.
The force said in a news release today: “The post contained misleading information stating that the hotel was home to a number of asylum seekers. Thankfully, the post did not result in any disorder.
“Following the reports an investigation was launched by Cheshire police which resulted in the arrest of 32-year-old man and 34-year-old woman from Chester, on 5 Monday August.”
The pair have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
Riots have flared up and escalated across the UK over the past week in the wake of a stabbing attack that left three girls dead in Southport.
False information circulated online claimed that the suspect, who it later emerged was born in Wales, was an asylum seeker who arrived in the UK by boat.
Teenager appears in court with mum
A 15-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to violent disorder after throwing a paving slab at someone during riots in Liverpool on Saturday night.
The teenager, who cannot be named because of his age, was identified from CCTV footage and a TikTok video sent to police by a member of the public, Liverpool Magistrates’ Court heard.
In the footage, he can be seen removing his jacket and T-shirt after what was described as an altercation with a member of the crowd during violent disorder in the city centre on Saturday night.
Prosecutor Joshua Sanderson-Kirk said: “He picks up a paving slab which has been recently dislocated and throws it at a member of the public.”
The court heard the youngster, whose mother sat in court, had been on police bail at the time banning him from entering the city centre.
The boy was granted bail on the same condition ahead of sentencing on 17 September as District Judge Timothy Boswell told him he could be sent to a young persons’ prison.
“I’m sure you will appreciate the fact this is a very serious matter,” the judge said.
Another man, Ashley Harris, 36, is due in court in Bristol charged in connection with violent disorder in the city centre on Saturday, Avon and Somerset Police said.
