A motorcyclist died in an early morning crash in Lexington Tuesday, according to the Lexington Police Department.
The wreck lead to a section of a busy road in Lexington being shut down during the Tuesday morning rush-hour commute, according to the Lexington Traffic Management Center.
The crash happened around 4:07 a.m. on Tates Creek Road in the area of Robin Road, according to Lexington police Lt. Jesse Palmer. A car collided with a motorcycle and the motorcyclist was declared dead on scene.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the motorcyclist after immediate family members have been notified.
No other injuries were reported. Palmer said no criminal charges have been filed but the driver received a citation for an unrelated infraction.
The police department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the wreck.
The inbound and outbound lanes of Tates Creek Road were closed between Lansdowne Drive and Albany Road while police investigated the scene. At 7:50 a.m. the traffic management center reported the road had reopened.
