Matty Johns has lifted the lid on the heartwarming act from one of his sons that helped mend the relationship with his brother Andrew.
The pair’s relationship had become strained early last year after the pair disagreed over the status of the QLD Maroons heading into the 2023 State of Origin series, which they went on to win.
The tension was played out in front of the public eye, but was only brought to an end through intervention from Matty’s eldest son, former Newcastle Knights forward Jack Johns.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Matty and the Missile podcast, the Fox League personality lifted the lid on the events that unfolded in the build-up to he and his brother breaking bread and reuniting.
“My oldest son Jack, great kid. He worries about the family too much. He’s that sort of kid,” Johns explained.
“Jack said I don’t like what’s going on between you and uncle Joey. It’s not right.’ (I said) ‘we’re brothers.’
“So one day I’m sitting there on the lounge, it’s a Sunday afternoon, I’m having a couple of beers and he goes ‘do you want to go for a drive Dad?’
‘I didn’t really want to, I was watching a movie (but) I said ‘okay let’s go for a drive.’
Johns explained how the pair drove from their home on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, down the Spit Bridge and towards the city, with the 53-year-old oblivious to their destination for a large portion of the drive.
“As we went over the Harbour Bridge I knew where he was taking me,” he said.
Admitting he was reluctant to speak with his younger brother, the eighth immortal, Johns revealed his son’s strong words sparked him into action.
“He said ‘get the fuck up there,” Johns revealed.
“I got the lift and (Jack) knocked on the door and I gave Joey a big cuddle.”
Johns credited his son for reuniting the pair after their months-long feud.
“He (Jack) did that,” Johns noted.
Ignited on Matty’s SEN show Morning Glory last year, the pair’s disagreement centred around the pair’s differing stances on the positions of Queensland and New South Wales heading into 2023’s Origin series.
Matty believed Queensland entered the series on the front foot, with Joey strongly disagreeing, with the spat eventually resulting in the latter sensationally quitting SEN a few months down the line.
While conceding “there’s still a little bit of ground to make up” to get their relationship back to its best, the 1997 Premiership winner shared that at the end of the day he and Joey are “still brothers.”
