The Yankees will not begin their three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night as the game has been postponed due to rain in the area, the team announced.
Instead, the game will be rescheduled for Wednesday and will be made up as part of a traditional doubleheader with Game 1 starting at 4:05 p.m.
The team’s social media account tweeted that more information will be posted shortly, although with traditional doubleheaders, Game 2 is typically played about 30 minutes after the final out of Game 1.
After the postponement, manager Aaron Boone told reporters that RHP Luis Gil (11-5, 3.20 ERA), Tuesday’s intended starter, will start Game 1 while RHP Will Warren (0-0, 6.75 ERA) will start Game 2 as the team’s 27th man.
Warren made his MLB debut against the Philadelphia Phillies on July 30 and pitched 5.1 innings, giving up four earned runs on four hits, two walks and struck out six in a game New York won 7-6 in extra innings.
“Presence, confidence, probably was a little wound up early, but pitching against that lineup in Philly it felt like a big game and he walks in with a lot of confidence. Stuff to back it up,” Boone said about what he liked about Warren in his last start for the Yanks. “After getting punched in the mouth, he clamped down and got even better. Finished the night really strong and set us up for a win. He’s been throwing the ball well now for a month or two.”
In 20 starts for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, the 25-year-old is 5-5 with a 6.11 ERA (1.40 WHIP) but has 115 strikeouts in 95.2 innings.
