It’s been more than a decade since Lifetime‘s “Dance Moms” premiered in 2011, serving as the first taste of unscripted reality television for its millions of loyal viewers — many of which were children during its eight-year run through 2019, and are now college-aged young adults whose only connection to the show today is through Jojo Siwa’s meme-worthy music career.
Well, fans that have have found themselves nostalgic for “Dance Moms” in recent years, re-watching the show’s most unhinged clips on TikTok (dance instructor Abbey Miller was TikTok virality gold before the social media platform even existed) are in luck. A reboot of the beloved reality show, titled “Dance Moms: A New Era,” arrived on Hulu Tuesday night. All 10 episodes of the first season are now available to stream online.
Plus, Hulu currently offers a 7-day free trial so you can stream “Dance Moms: A New Era” for free.
According to the logline, the first season follows “Glo Hampton, who wants to take her students and prestigious dance school Studio Bleu to the next level – competing nationally every week. But the road to glory won’t be an easy one. Coach Glo must juggle her tiny but mighty dancers, their scheming moms, and ensuing meltdowns, all while ruling with a tender but tough iron fist. Will Glo and her dance team persevere amidst the dramatics?”
The premise sounds identical the original show, swapping out Miller for another high-strung dance instructor, and of course a new flock of child dancers and their bickering mothers — the latter of which is the real necessity for a bulk of the show’s entertainment. Lest you forget the iconic scene in which Miller slowly backs up in her wheelchair during a recital when getting called out for using her cell phone. We can only hope the reboot employs the same melodramatic music and editing for dramatic effect.
The reboot follows the highly anticipated “Dance Moms” reunion, which aired on Lifetime in May. Nearly five years after the original show’s last episode, the two-hour special reunited dancers Siwa, Chloe Lukasiak, sisters Brooke and Paige Hyland, Kendall Vertes and Kalani Hilliker.
