Bengaluru: Nightlife hours extended, bars, hotels and clubs to remain open till 1 am – MASHAHER

The Karnataka government has extended Bengaluru’s nightlife hours, meaning all bars, hotels and clubs can remain open until 1 am. All these establishments located under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits can operate till the stipulated time.

The Urban Development Department approved the extension of nightlife hours as announced in the budget last year. The Silicon City’s nightlife, which earlier operated unofficially, has now been officially endorsed by the state government.

According to the order, bars can now open from 10 am until 1 am. Clubs (CL4 licence), star hotels (CL6 licence), as well as hotels and lodges with CL7 and CL7D licences, are allowed to operate from 9 am to 1 am.

Refreshment rooms (bars) with CL9 licences can conduct business from 10 am to 1 am, as per the order.

In 2016, hotels, restaurants and markets were permitted to stay open to boost nighttime trade in the city. However, due to opposition from the people, all commercial establishments were ordered to be shut by 11 pm.

The extension of Bengaluru’s nightlife hours was mentioned in the state budget presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in February last year.

During the budget presentation, Siddaramaiah announced that businesses could operate until 1 am.

Within the BBMP jurisdiction, hotels serving liquor, clubs and bars, which earlier closed at 10 pm or 11 pm, will now operate until 1 am, as per the order.
