In an interview with Hindustan Times, actor Gurmeet Choudhary discussed the challenges of living a public life, particularly the online trolling that he, his wife Debina Bonnerjee, and their children face. Gurmeet and Debina have gained a large following on social media by sharing glimpses of their lives, but with that fame comes a darker side—trolling. However, Gurmeet is unfazed, understanding that it’s part and parcel of being in the spotlight. “When we are an actor and public figure, your life is not just yours… We make it public. We are working for all the people, and to get their love,” he explained.

Handling the Negative Side of Fame
Gurmeet and Debina, who got married on February 15, 2011, and are proud parents to two daughters, Lianna and Divisha, have only recently started sharing more of their lives on social media. This has attracted both adoration and criticism. Gurmeet acknowledges that while most interactions are positive, a small percentage involve trolling. “We have learned how to tackle the negativity. When it comes to our social media presence, 80-85 percent is filled with good and positive stuff, and 5 percent of the people troll us and our kids,” he mentioned.
Choosing to Focus on the Positive
Despite the negativity, Gurmeet emphasizes the importance of focusing on the love and support they receive. “But we can’t do anything about it. Most often we try to overlook the negative stuff and focus on the positive things being written about us. We focus on the love that we get and ignore the negativity aimed towards me and my family,” he said. The actor has mastered the art of ignoring hate and values constructive criticism that helps him improve his craft.
The Response to Commander Karan Saxena
Gurmeet Choudhary’s latest project, Commander Karan Saxena, a web show on Disney+ Hotstar, has received overwhelming praise. Directed by Jatin Wagle, the series follows a RAW agent navigating a high-stakes political mystery. Gurmeet, who plays the titular role, also made his singing debut with a rap song for the series. Reflecting on the positive feedback, Gurmeet shared, “The response has just been overwhelming for the whole team. It was heartening to see the response, especially people from all age groups watching it.”
A Humble Connection with Fans
One of the most touching aspects of the show’s success for Gurmeet was the genuine connection with his fans, from liftmen to watchmen in his society, who expressed their excitement about the series. “I was so touched that people are loving the show so much,” he said. The enthusiasm of his audience, regardless of age, has been a rewarding experience for the actor, further cementing his belief in focusing on the positive aspects of his public life.
